Molokai Snorkeling: Experiencing Creation's Beauty (Genesis 1:20-23)

By Rev. John Moelker176 words

On the fifth day, God began to fill the seas and the sky He had created earlier with all kinds of living creatures. God commanded the water to teem with living creatures.

Whenever I read this, I'm reminded of the Molokai crater in Hawaii, where my wife Deb and I went snorkeling on our honeymoon. The fish in that reef are just amazing. There are fish of every size and color, and you can see clearly for 200 feet underwater. It is awesome. It's my dream to go back there someday just to experience that again—maybe on our 25th wedding anniversary.

All of this beauty came to be by the Word of God—the Word of God that still rings out down through history: "Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky."

"God blessed them and said, 'Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.'" And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.
