Prayer of St. Basil the Great

By Basil the GreatSource: Basil the Great - Evening Prayers of St. Basil (4th century) - Public Domain87 words

O God, our God, who through the entry of sleep dost grant rest to human weakness: We pray Thee, O Master, Lover of humankind, to make our rest this night to be sinless. Grant, O Lord, the Creator of all things, even in the time of our repose, that we may keep ourselves from every fancy of this world's wickedness, stilling every craving of the flesh. Rouse us at the hour of prayer, strengthened in Thy precepts and holding firm within ourselves the thought of Thy commandments.
