Putting Into Practice: Compassion - Teaching Material

God promises in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This verse is often quoted to inspire confidence in God’s guidance, but it also invites us to take action in compassion.

Imagine a single mother, working tirelessly to provide for her children, feeling overwhelmed and isolated. God has a plan for her, but sometimes that plan is realized through the tangible acts of community around her. When we respond to the prompting of the Holy Spirit, we embody God’s compassion, helping to weave the fabric of His purpose into the lives of those around us.

As we reflect on our faith, let’s ask ourselves: Are we merely passive recipients of God’s promises, or active participants in His plan? Testing our faith means stepping out with compassion towards those in need—offering a meal, a listening ear, or even a prayer.

We have the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus, bringing hope into dark situations. This week, seek out someone in your community who needs encouragement. It might be a neighbor, a colleague, or even someone in your own family. Take that step with love and trust, knowing that your actions are a vital part of God’s beautiful plan—a plan that enriches your faith while actively fulfilling His purpose for others. Let us be doers of the Word, living out the compassion that defines our faith.
