Quiet Time: Courage - Story
Imagine a small boat bobbing on the vast sea, the sun glistening on the waves, a gentle breeze guiding its course. In that boat sits a lone sailor, gripping the tiller with white knuckles, a mixture of excitement and fear swirling within him. This sailor, much like each of us, is confronted by the storms of life—challenges that can either paralyze us or propel us into new depths of courage.
In Galatians 5:22-23, we are reminded of the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. But did you notice that courage is not explicitly listed? Yet, my friends, courage is woven through these gifts. It is the quiet strength that allows us to choose joy in the midst of sorrow, to serve others even when we feel spent, to embrace freedom in our faith, even when the world shouts otherwise.
The sailor must muster the courage to navigate through dark clouds and merciless winds. Similarly, we are called to find that courage in our spiritual growth, trusting that God will equip us for the journey ahead. When we respond to His call in service—whether it be a listening ear, a kind word, or a helping hand—we not only discover our purpose but also find that our fears dissolve in the warmth of community.
So, let us be brave, like that sailor, and trust that every wave we face is a chance to deepen our faith. In doing so, we cultivate the courage to live out our calling, and we find joy in the journey together.
