Reflecting on Digital Discipleship - Commentary

In our rapidly changing digital landscape, where screens pulse with information and the hum of connectivity surrounds us, we find ourselves at a crossroads of faith and technology. Proverbs 3:5-6 beckons us with a profound invitation: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight." This ancient wisdom resonates deeply today, challenging the very foundations of our digital discipleship.

As Anabaptists, we hold dear the principles of community, simplicity, and active engagement in the world. Yet, in the vast expanse of the digital realm, it’s easy to drift away from these guiding values. How often do we allow the noise of social media to drown out the still, small voice of God? In this space, we must confront the question of human dignity: How do we ensure that our digital interactions reflect the imago Dei, the image of God in every person we encounter online?

Let us consider the implications of divine sovereignty. Our technology can either build bridges or create barriers. Are we using our platforms to uplift and support our communities, or to sow discord and division? Our theological commitments compel us to engage intentionally, to remember that every tweet, comment, and post is an opportunity to demonstrate agape love—unconditional and self-giving.
