Reflecting on Justice - Teaching Material

As we reflect on Matthew 28:19-20, we encounter the Great Commission—a call that echoes with both urgency and grace. Jesus, having conquered sin and death, invites us to participate in His mission: to make disciples of all nations. Yet, woven through this command is a profound understanding of God's nature, characterized by justice and mercy.

Imagine a small community garden tended by neighbors—a place where each person brings their unique gifts. Some plant seeds of hope, others water with love, and still others nurture the growth with care. As we tend to this garden, we see a reflection of justice: it is not merely equal distribution of resources but the intentional action of meeting each person's needs. God's justice is restorative, calling us to actively engage in mending the brokenness around us.

Moreover, as we undertake this mission, we are enveloped in grace. In our efforts to teach and nurture, we will undoubtedly face challenges—times when our own understanding falters, or our hearts grow weary. Yet, in these moments of testing, we can lean into the promise that Jesus is with us “to the very end of the age.” This assurance transforms our trials into opportunities for spiritual growth, inviting us to trust deeper in His guidance.

As we reflect on our calling, let us embrace both justice and grace, knowing that in our efforts to disciple others, we are also being shaped by God’s abiding presence. The world is hungry for this divine love—let us meet that need with open hearts.
