Romero: God Hears the Cry of the Poor - Liberation (Exodus 3)
Archbishop Romero discovered his burning bush when his friend Rutilio Grande was murdered: God was calling him to speak for El Salvador's poor. Exodus 3:7-8 is the charter for liberation theology: "I have seen the affliction of my people... I have heard their cry... I know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them." God is not neutral; He takes sides with the oppressed. The I AM is the God who liberates. Every base community reads Exodus and recognizes their story. Every Christian who encounters this God is sent, like Moses, to confront systems of oppression.
