Show Don't Tell: Genesis 11:1-9

Instead of saying "People built a tower and God confused their languages," put your congregation on the construction site. Feel the sun-baked mud turning to brick, smell the hot bitumen bubbling in pots, hear the rhythmic chants of workers hauling stone higher. One language, one purpose, one dream: "Let us make a name for ourselves." Watch the tower rise against the flat Mesopotamian plain—a ziggurat reaching toward heaven. Then comes the divine descent—God "coming down" to see this tower that barely registers from heaven's height. And suddenly: a worker turns to ask for more bricks and his partner stares back, uncomprehending. Instructions come out as gibberish. Feel the chaos spreading: frustration, then fear, then isolation. The bricks stop moving. The workers drift apart. The tower stands half-finished, a monument to human pride.
