Show Don't Tell: Genesis 18:16-33

Instead of saying "Abraham negotiated with God to spare Sodom," eavesdrop on the divine deliberation. The visitors rise to leave, looking toward Sodom. God speaks almost to himself: "Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do?" Then the verdict: the outcry against Sodom is so great that God is going down to investigate. Abraham walks with them, then stops. Watch him step forward—a man daring to argue with God. "Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked?" Feel the audacity, the sweat. Fifty righteous? Forty-five? Forty? Thirty? Twenty? Ten? Each time God agrees. "For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it." But there are not even ten righteous people in Sodom.
