Show Don't Tell: John 13:18-30
Instead of saying "Jesus identified his betrayer," watch the morsel passed. "I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen. But this is to fulfill this passage of Scripture: 'He who shared my bread has turned against me.'" Jesus is troubled in spirit: "Very truly I tell you, one of you is going to betray me." The disciples stare at one another, at a loss to know which of them he means. One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loves, is reclining next to him. Simon Peter motions to this disciple: "Ask him which one he means." Leaning back against Jesus: "Lord, who is it?" "It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish." Then, dipping the piece of bread, he gives it to Judas, son of Simon Iscariot. As soon as Judas takes the bread, Satan enters into him. "What you are about to do, do quickly." No one at the meal understands why Jesus says this. Some think, since Judas has charge of the money, Jesus is telling him to buy supplies for the festival or to give something to the poor. As soon as Judas takes the bread, he goes out. And it is night.
