Show Don't Tell: John 18:12-27

Instead of saying "Peter denied Jesus while Jesus was questioned," feel the charcoal fire. The detachment of soldiers with its commander and the Jewish officials arrest Jesus. They bind him and bring him first to Annas, who is the father-in-law of Caiaphas, the high priest that year. Simon Peter and another disciple follow Jesus. Because this disciple is known to the high priest, he goes with Jesus into the high priest's courtyard, but Peter waits outside at the door. The other disciple comes back, speaks to the servant girl on duty there, and brings Peter in. "You aren't one of this man's disciples too, are you?" she asks. "I am not." It was cold, and the servants and officials stood around a fire they had made to keep warm. Peter also was standing with them, warming himself. Meanwhile, the high priest questions Jesus about his disciples and his teaching. "I have spoken openly to the world... Why question me? Ask those who heard me. Surely they know what I said." An official strikes Jesus in the face: "Is this the way you answer the high priest?" Jesus sent bound to Caiaphas. As Simon Peter stands warming himself: "You aren't one of his disciples too, are you?" "I am not." One of the high priest's servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter cut off, challenges him: "Didn't I see you with him in the garden?" Again Peter denies it, and at that moment a rooster begins to crow.
