Show Don't Tell: Luke 10:25-37
Instead of saying "Jesus told the parable of the Good Samaritan," walk the Jericho road. An expert in the law stands up to test Jesus: "Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus asks what's written in the Law. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart... and love your neighbor as yourself." "Do this and you will live." But wanting to justify himself, he asks: "And who is my neighbor?" Jesus replies with a story: A man is going down from Jerusalem to Jericho when robbers attack him. They strip him, beat him, leave him half dead. A priest comes down that road, sees the man, passes by on the other side. A Levite does the same. Religious professionals, avoiding contamination or inconvenience. But a Samaritan—despised outsider—comes where the man is. When he sees him, he takes pity. He bandages his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. He puts the man on his own donkey, brings him to an inn, takes care of him. The next day he gives the innkeeper two denarii: "Look after him, and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense." Then Jesus asks: "Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?" "The one who had mercy on him." "Go and do likewise."
