Show Don't Tell: Luke 10:38-42
Instead of saying "Mary sat at Jesus' feet while Martha served," feel Martha's distraction. As Jesus and his disciples are on their way, he comes to a village where a woman named Martha opens her home to him. She has a sister called Mary, who sits at the Lord's feet listening to what he says. Sits at his feet—the position of a disciple, unusual for a woman in that culture. But Martha is distracted by all the preparations that have to be made. She comes to Jesus: "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!" "Martha, Martha," the Lord answers, "you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." Service versus attention. Both needed, but one takes priority. Mary chose the better part.
