Show Don't Tell: Luke 17:11-19
Instead of saying "Jesus healed ten lepers but only one returned," count the footsteps back. Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus travels along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he is going into a village, ten men who have leprosy meet him. They stand at a distance—required by law—and call out in a loud voice: "Jesus, Master, have pity on us!" "Go, show yourselves to the priests." As they go, they are cleansed. One of them, when he sees he is healed, comes back, praising God in a loud voice. He throws himself at Jesus' feet and thanks him—and he is a Samaritan. "Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?" Then Jesus says to him: "Rise and go; your faith has made you well." Ten healed. One returns. And the one who returns is the outsider, the Samaritan. Nine Israelites keep walking; the foreigner falls at Jesus' feet.
