Show Don't Tell: Luke 19:11-27

Instead of saying "Jesus told the parable of the ten minas," count the returns. While they are listening to this, he tells them a parable, because he is near Jerusalem and the people think the kingdom of God is going to appear at once. A man of noble birth goes to a distant country to have himself appointed king and then to return. He calls ten of his servants and gives them ten minas—a mina is about three months' wages. "Put this money to work until I come back." But his subjects hate him and send a delegation: "We don't want this man to be our king." He is made king anyway and returns. "Bring those servants to whom I gave the money, so I may find out what they have gained." First servant: "Sir, your mina has earned ten more." "Well done, good servant! Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities." Second: five minas earned, five cities. Third: "Sir, here is your mina; I have kept it laid away in a piece of cloth. I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man." "I will judge you by your own words, you wicked servant!" The mina is taken and given to the one who has ten. Then: "Those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them here and kill them in front of me."
