Show Don't Tell: Luke 4:31-37
Instead of saying "Jesus cast out a demon in Capernaum," hear the shriek interrupt the service. He goes down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and on the Sabbath teaches the people. They are amazed at his teaching, because his words have authority. In the synagogue there is a man possessed by a demon, an impure spirit. He cries out at the top of his voice: "Go away! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!" "Be quiet!" Jesus says sternly. "Come out of him!" The demon throws the man down before them all and comes out without injuring him. All the people are amazed: "What words these are! With authority and power he gives orders to impure spirits and they come out!" News about him spreads throughout the surrounding area. Teaching with authority; demons recognize and obey. The pattern repeats.
