Show Don't Tell: Luke 5:27-32
Instead of saying "Jesus called Levi and ate with sinners," see the tax booth emptied. After this, Jesus goes out and sees a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. "Follow me." Levi gets up, leaves everything, and follows him. Then Levi holds a great banquet for Jesus at his house. A large crowd of tax collectors and others are eating with them. The Pharisees and teachers of the law complain to his disciples: "Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?" Jesus answers them: "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." The logic is simple: doctors go where disease is. Jesus goes where sin is. The party at Levi's house isn't a scandal—it's a house call.
