Show Don't Tell: Luke 6:1-11

Instead of saying "Jesus defended Sabbath-breaking and healed on the Sabbath," watch the grain heads fall. One Sabbath Jesus is going through the grainfields, and his disciples begin to pick some heads of grain, rub them in their hands, and eat the kernels. Some Pharisees ask: "Why are you doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?" Jesus answers with David eating consecrated bread when hungry. "The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath." On another Sabbath, he goes into the synagogue and teaches. A man is there whose right hand is shriveled. The Pharisees and teachers watch closely—will he heal on the Sabbath? They're looking for a reason to accuse him. But Jesus knows their thoughts. "Stand up in front of everyone." Public. Visible. "I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?" He looks around at them all, says to the man: "Stretch out your hand." He stretches it out—completely restored. But they are furious and begin to discuss what they might do to Jesus.
