Show Don't Tell: Luke 7:18-35
Instead of saying "John the Baptist sent messengers to Jesus," hear the question from prison. John's disciples tell him about all these things. John sends two of them to the Lord: "Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?" The forerunner, now in prison, wonders. At that very time Jesus cures many who have diseases, sicknesses, and evil spirits, and gives sight to many who are blind. He replies: "Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor. Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me." Jesus doesn't answer with yes or no but with evidence. After John's messengers leave, Jesus speaks to the crowd about John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swayed by the wind? A man dressed in fine clothes?" No—"a prophet, and more than a prophet... among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he."
