Show Don't Tell: Luke 8:26-39
Instead of saying "Jesus healed the Gerasene demoniac," meet the man from the tombs. They sail to the region of the Gerasenes, across from Galilee. When Jesus steps ashore, he is met by a demon-possessed man from the town. For a long time this man has not worn clothes or lived in a house, but in the tombs. He lives naked among the dead. When he sees Jesus, he cries out and falls at his feet, shouting at the top of his voice: "What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, don't torture me!" Jesus has commanded the impure spirit to come out. Many times it has seized him—he was kept under guard, bound with chains and shackles, but he broke the chains and was driven by the demon into solitary places. "What is your name?" "Legion"—because many demons have gone into him. They beg Jesus not to order them into the Abyss. A large herd of pigs is feeding on the hillside. The demons beg to go into them; Jesus gives permission. They go into the pigs; the herd rushes down the steep bank into the lake and drowns. Those tending the pigs report it; people come out and find the man sitting at Jesus' feet, dressed and in his right mind. They are afraid. The healed man begs to go with Jesus, but Jesus sends him home: "Return home and tell how much God has done for you." He goes away and tells all over town.
