Show Don't Tell: Luke 8:40-56
Instead of saying "Jesus healed a bleeding woman and raised Jairus's daughter," watch the stories intertwine. Jesus returns, and a crowd welcomes him. A man named Jairus, a synagogue leader, falls at Jesus' feet, pleading: come to his house—his only daughter, about twelve, is dying. As Jesus goes, the crowds almost crush him. A woman in the crowd has been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She has spent all she has on doctors but no one can heal her. She comes up behind Jesus and touches the edge of his cloak—immediately her bleeding stops. "Who touched me?" Peter points out the crowd pressing in. "Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me." The woman, trembling, falls at his feet and tells the whole truth. "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace." While Jesus is still speaking, someone from Jairus's house arrives: "Your daughter is dead. Don't bother the teacher anymore." Jesus: "Don't be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed." At the house, people are wailing. "Stop wailing. She is not dead but asleep." They laugh at him, knowing she is dead. He takes her by the hand: "My child, get up!" Her spirit returns; she stands up at once. Jesus tells them to give her something to eat.
