Show Don't Tell: Luke 9:1-9
Instead of saying "Jesus sent out the Twelve," count what they don't take. Jesus calls the Twelve together and gives them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases. He sends them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. "Take nothing for the journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt." Nothing but the mission. "Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that town. If people do not welcome you, leave their town and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them." They set out and go from village to village, proclaiming the good news and healing people everywhere. Now Herod the tetrarch hears about all that is happening. He is perplexed—some say John has been raised from the dead, others that Elijah has appeared, others that one of the prophets of long ago has come back. "I beheaded John. Who, then, is this I hear such things about?" And he tries to see Jesus. The guilty conscience wonders; the mission continues.
