Show Don't Tell: Luke 9:10-17
Instead of saying "Jesus fed five thousand people," count the fish. When the apostles return, they report what they have done. Jesus takes them with him and they withdraw privately to a town called Bethsaida. But the crowds learn about it and follow him. He welcomes them and speaks to them about the kingdom of God, healing those who need healing. Late in the afternoon the Twelve come to him: "Send the crowd away so they can go to the surrounding villages and countryside and find food and lodging, because we are in a remote place here." "You give them something to eat." "We have only five loaves of bread and two fish—unless we go and buy food for all this crowd"—about five thousand men. "Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each." They do. Taking the five loaves and two fish, looking up to heaven, he gives thanks and breaks them. He gives them to the disciples to distribute. They all eat and are satisfied. The disciples pick up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that are left over.
