Show Don't Tell: Mark 1:14-20
Instead of saying "Jesus called his first disciples," hear the nets drop. After John is put in prison, Jesus goes into Galilee proclaiming good news: "The time has come. The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!" Walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he sees Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake—fishermen at their trade. "Come, follow me, and I will send you out to fish for people." At once—that word again—they leave their nets and follow. A little farther, James and John, sons of Zebedee, in their boat preparing nets. He calls them. They leave their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and follow. No lengthy deliberation. No weighing pros and cons. Jesus calls; they drop everything. The kingdom demands immediate response.
