Show Don't Tell: Mark 1:21-28
Instead of saying "Jesus cast out a demon in the synagogue," hear the shriek interrupt the sermon. They go to Capernaum. On the Sabbath, Jesus enters the synagogue and teaches. The people are amazed—he teaches as one who has authority, not like the teachers of the law. Then a man with an impure spirit cries out: "What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!" The demon recognizes what the religious leaders miss. "Be quiet!" Jesus commands. "Come out of him!" The spirit shakes the man violently, shrieks, and comes out. Everyone is amazed: "What is this? A new teaching—and with authority! He even gives orders to impure spirits and they obey him." News spreads quickly over the whole region of Galilee. In one scene: teaching, confrontation, deliverance, fame.
