Show Don't Tell: Mark 14:27-31
Instead of saying "Jesus predicted Peter's denial," hear the overconfidence. "You will all fall away," Jesus tells them, quoting Zechariah: "I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered." But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee." Hope beyond failure. Peter declares: "Even if all fall away, I will not." Even if everyone else—not me. Jesus looks at him: "Truly I tell you, today—yes, tonight—before the rooster crows twice you yourself will disown me three times." Specific. Tonight. Before dawn. Three times. Peter insists even more emphatically: "Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you." All the others say the same. They all mean it. They're all wrong. The shepherd is about to be struck; the sheep are about to scatter. Self-confidence will shatter against the rock of reality.
