Show Don't Tell: Mark 15:16-20
Instead of saying "The soldiers mocked Jesus," dress him in purple. The soldiers lead Jesus away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium) and call together the whole company of soldiers. They put a purple robe on him—the color of royalty, used in mockery. They twist together a crown of thorns and set it on him. And they begin to call out: "Hail, king of the Jews!" Again and again they strike him on the head with a staff. They spit on him. Falling on their knees, they pay homage to him—fake worship, dripping with contempt. When they have finished mocking him, they take off the purple robe and put his own clothes back on him. Then they lead him out to crucify him. Every element of kingship—robe, crown, scepter, homage—twisted into torture. The real King absorbs the mockery of his own creation.
