Show Don't Tell: Mark 16:9-20
Instead of saying "Jesus appeared after his resurrection," count the appearances. When Jesus rises early on the first day of the week, he appears first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons. She goes and tells those who had been with him—they are mourning and weeping. When they hear that Jesus is alive and that she has seen him, they don't believe it. Afterward Jesus appears in a different form to two of them while they are walking in the country. They return and report to the rest; but they don't believe them either. Later Jesus appears to the Eleven as they are eating. He rebukes them for their lack of faith and stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him. Then: "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned." Signs will accompany believers: driving out demons, speaking in new tongues, picking up snakes, drinking poison without harm, healing the sick. After the Lord Jesus speaks to them, he is taken up into heaven and sits at the right hand of God. Then the disciples go out and preach everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming his word by the signs that accompany it.
