Show Don't Tell: Mark 7:31-37
Instead of saying "Jesus healed a deaf and mute man," watch the strange ritual. Jesus returns to the Sea of Galilee through the Decapolis. People bring a man who is deaf and can hardly talk. They beg Jesus to place his hand on him. Jesus takes him aside, away from the crowd—private healing. He puts his fingers into the man's ears. Then he spits and touches the man's tongue. He looks up to heaven with a deep sigh: "Ephphatha!"—"Be opened!" Immediately the man's ears are opened, his tongue loosened, and he speaks plainly. Jesus commands them not to tell anyone. But the more he tells them, the more they keep talking about it. People are overwhelmed with amazement: "He has done everything well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak." Isaiah's prophecy: when the Messiah comes, the deaf will hear and the mute will sing for joy.
