Show Don't Tell: Mark 9:33-41
Instead of saying "Jesus taught about greatness using a child," catch them in their argument. They arrive in Capernaum. In the house, Jesus asks: "What were you arguing about on the road?" Silence. They're embarrassed. They had been arguing about who was the greatest—while Jesus talked about his death. Sitting down, Jesus calls the Twelve: "Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all." Then he takes a little child, has him stand among them, takes him in his arms: "Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me." John reports they saw someone driving out demons in Jesus' name and told him to stop because he wasn't one of them. Jesus: "Do not stop him. For no one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me. For whoever is not against us is for us. Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward."
