Show Don't Tell: Matthew 10:16-23

Instead of saying "Jesus warned of coming persecution," feel the danger ahead. "I am sending you out like sheep among wolves." Not a comforting metaphor. Wolves don't negotiate with sheep. "Be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves." Cunning without compromise. "Be on your guard; you will be handed over to local councils and flogged in the synagogues." The religious establishment will turn violent. "You will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses." Your trial becomes your testimony. Families will fracture: "Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child." The cost measured in blood and relationships. "You will be hated by everyone because of me." But—"the one who stands firm to the end will be saved." Endurance, not escape, is the promise.
