Show Don't Tell: Matthew 10:34-39
Instead of saying "Jesus brings division," hear the sword unsheathed. "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword." This isn't gentle Jesus, meek and mild. This is a dividing line. The sword cuts through families: son against father, daughter against mother, daughter-in-law against mother-in-law. "A man's enemies will be the members of his own household." Feel the violence of that division—Thanksgiving tables split, phone calls not returned, inheritances contested. "Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me." The hierarchy is absolute. "Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me." Cross—not metaphor for inconvenience but instrument of execution. "Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it."
