Show Don't Tell: Matthew 12:1-14
Instead of saying "Jesus debated Sabbath law," watch the grain fall. The disciples are hungry, walking through fields on the Sabbath. They pick heads of grain, rub them in their hands, eat. The Pharisees pounce: "Look! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath." Harvesting, they call it. Jesus responds with Scripture: David ate the consecrated bread when hungry. Priests work on the Sabbath in the temple. "Something greater than the temple is here." Then the synagogue—a man with a shriveled hand. The Pharisees watch to accuse. Jesus asks: "If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out? How much more valuable is a person than a sheep!" He heals the hand. The Pharisees leave to plot his death. Doing good on the Sabbath provokes murder plots.
