Show Don't Tell: Matthew 14:22-36
Instead of saying "Jesus walked on water and Peter tried," row into the storm. Jesus makes the disciples get in the boat while he dismisses the crowds. He goes up the mountainside to pray—alone, finally. The boat, far from shore, is battered by waves, wind against it. Shortly before dawn, Jesus comes walking on the lake. They see him and scream: "It's a ghost!" Jesus: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid." Peter: "Lord, if it's you, tell me to come to you on the water." "Come." Peter climbs out, walks on the water toward Jesus. Then he sees the wind, becomes afraid, starts to sink: "Lord, save me!" Immediately Jesus reaches out, catches him: "You of little faith, why did you doubt?" They climb in the boat; the wind dies. The disciples worship: "Truly you are the Son of God."
