Show Don't Tell: Matthew 15:21-28
Instead of saying "A Canaanite woman's faith impressed Jesus," hear the shocking exchange. Jesus withdraws to Tyre and Sidon—Gentile territory. A Canaanite woman cries out: "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly." Jesus does not answer a word. The disciples want her gone. Jesus says: "I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel." She kneels: "Lord, help me!" His response sounds harsh: "It is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to the dogs." She doesn't argue or take offense. She agrees and advances: "Yes it is, Lord. Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master's table." Jesus marvels: "Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted." Her daughter is healed that very hour. An outsider out-faiths the insiders.
