Show Don't Tell: Matthew 19:16-30
Instead of saying "Jesus challenged a rich young man," watch wealth fail the test. A man approaches: "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?" Jesus probes: "Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only One who is good." Keep the commandments. "Which ones?" Murder, adultery, stealing, false testimony, honor parents, love neighbor. "All these I have kept. What do I still lack?" One thing: "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." Watch the young man's face fall. He goes away sad, because he had great wealth. Jesus: "Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle." The disciples are astonished: who then can be saved? "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
