Show Don't Tell: Matthew 23:1-12

Instead of saying "Jesus criticized religious hypocrisy," watch the warning unfold. Jesus addresses the crowds and his disciples about the Pharisees: "The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach." Their teaching is sound; their lives contradict it. They pile heavy loads on others' shoulders but won't lift a finger to help. Everything they do is for show: phylacteries wide, tassels long, best seats at banquets, chief seats in synagogues, greetings in marketplaces, being called 'Rabbi.' "But you are not to be called 'Rabbi,' for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers." No Father but the heavenly one. No instructor but Christ. "The greatest among you will be your servant. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted."
