Show Don't Tell: Matthew 26:31-46
Instead of saying "Jesus prayed in Gethsemane," feel the weight crushing. On the way to the garden, Jesus predicts: "This very night you will all fall away on account of me." Peter protests: "Even if all fall away, I will never fall away." "Truly I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times." Peter: "Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you." All the disciples say the same. Gethsemane. Jesus takes Peter, James, and John deeper into the garden. "My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death." He goes a little farther, falls facedown. "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will." He returns—they're sleeping. "Couldn't you men keep watch with me for one hour?" Three times he prays; three times they sleep. Finally: "Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!"
