Show Don't Tell: Matthew 26:57-68
Instead of saying "Jesus was tried before the Sanhedrin," hear the false witnesses stumble. They bring Jesus to Caiaphas the high priest, where the teachers of the law and elders have assembled. The chief priests and whole Sanhedrin are looking for false evidence—they've already decided the verdict, just need testimony. Many false witnesses come forward, but their statements don't agree. Finally, two: "This fellow said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.'" The high priest demands: "Are you not going to answer?" Jesus remains silent. Under oath: "Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God." "You have said so. But I say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven." The high priest tears his clothes: "He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses?" They spit in his face. They strike him with their fists. They slap him: "Prophesy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?"
