Show Don't Tell: Matthew 27:1-10
Instead of saying "Judas hanged himself in remorse," count the silver returned. Early morning—the chief priests and elders formally decide: death. They bind Jesus and hand him over to Pilate. Judas, seeing that Jesus was condemned, is seized with remorse. He returns to the chief priests and elders: "I have sinned, for I have betrayed innocent blood." Their response: "What is that to us? That's your responsibility." He throws the thirty pieces of silver into the temple and leaves. Then he hangs himself. The chief priests pick up the coins—blood money, they can't put it in the treasury. They use it to buy the potter's field as a burial place for foreigners. That's why it's called the Field of Blood to this day. Jeremiah's prophecy fulfilled: thirty pieces of silver, the price set on him, used for the potter's field. Guilt without repentance leads to despair. Peter wept; Judas hanged himself.
