Show Don't Tell: Matthew 27:11-26
Instead of saying "Pilate condemned Jesus to be crucified," hear the crowd roar. Jesus stands before the governor. "Are you the king of the Jews?" "You have said so." To the accusations from chief priests and elders, Jesus gives no answer. Pilate is amazed. It's his custom to release a prisoner during the feast. He has Barabbas—a notorious criminal. "Which one do you want me to release: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?" While Pilate is sitting on the judge's seat, his wife sends a message: "Don't have anything to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him." But the chief priests and elders persuade the crowd to ask for Barabbas and have Jesus executed. "Which of the two?" "Barabbas!" "What shall I do with Jesus?" "Crucify him!" "Why? What crime has he committed?" They shout louder: "Crucify him!" Pilate washes his hands: "I am innocent of this man's blood." The crowd: "His blood is on us and on our children!" He releases Barabbas, has Jesus flogged, and hands him over to be crucified.
