Show Don't Tell: Matthew 27:27-44
Instead of saying "Jesus was mocked and crucified," feel the thorns press. The governor's soldiers take Jesus into the Praetorium, gather the whole company around him. They strip him. Drape a scarlet robe on his shoulders. Twist thorns into a crown, press it onto his head. Put a staff in his right hand. Kneel before him: "Hail, king of the Jews!" Spit on him. Take the staff and strike his head again and again. They lead him out to crucify him. A man from Cyrene—Simon—is forced to carry the cross. Golgotha, the Place of the Skull. Wine mixed with gall offered; he tastes it and refuses. They crucify him. Divide his clothes by casting lots. Sit down to keep watch. Above his head, the charge: THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS. Two rebels crucified with him—one on his right, one on his left. Passersby hurl insults: "You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!" The chief priests, teachers, and elders mock: "He saved others, but he can't save himself! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him." Even the rebels heap insults.
