Show Don't Tell: Matthew 5:38-42

Instead of saying "Jesus taught non-retaliation," feel the slap. "Eye for eye, tooth for tooth"—the Law limited revenge, ensured proportional justice. But Jesus goes further: "Do not resist an evil person." Watch the scenarios unfold. Someone slaps your right cheek—a backhanded insult, a public humiliation. Turn and offer the left. Someone sues for your shirt—give your coat as well, stripping yourself nearly naked to expose their greed. A Roman soldier forces you to carry his pack one mile—the legal limit. Carry it two. Go the second mile voluntarily. Someone asks to borrow—give. Don't turn away. Each example subverts the expected response. Instead of revenge, vulnerability. Instead of minimum compliance, extravagant generosity. The disciple doesn't play by the world's rules.
