Show Don't Tell: Matthew 9:14-17
Instead of saying "Jesus taught about new wine and wineskins," feel the confusion. John's disciples approach—their master is in prison, they're fasting in grief. "How is it that we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?" Jesus' answer: "How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them?" There's a wedding happening. The groom is here. Fasting comes later. Then the images: no one sews a new patch on an old garment—the new will shrink and tear away, making the hole worse. No one pours new wine into old wineskins—the fermenting wine will burst the brittle leather, and both are lost. New wine needs new wineskins. What Jesus is bringing can't be patched onto the old system. Something radically new is here.
