Show Don't Tell: Psalm 67
Instead of saying "God's blessing extends to all nations," hear the priestly benediction go global. "May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine on us—" The Aaronic blessing from Numbers 6. But then the purpose: "—so that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations." Blessing Israel so the world sees God. "May the peoples praise you, God; may all the peoples praise you." The refrain—all peoples, not just Israel. "May the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you rule the peoples with equity and guide the nations of the earth." Joy in God's governance. "May the peoples praise you, God; may all the peoples praise you." Repeated—emphasis through repetition. "The land yields its harvest; God, our God, blesses us. May God bless us still, so that all the ends of the earth will fear him." Harvest as sign of blessing, blessing as missionary strategy. Seven verses. Global vision. Israel's blessing exists to reach the nations.
