Spirited Away: Remembering Your Name (Isaiah 43:1)
When Chihiro enters the spirit world, the witch Yubaba steals her name, leaving only Sen. Without her name, Chihiro begins to forget who she is, where she came from, why she is there. Haku warns her: Never forget your name, or you will never find your way home. God declares through Isaiah: I have called you by name; you are mine. The film understands what Scripture knows: names carry identity, and those who control names control souls. Chihiro's journey is not merely to rescue her parents but to remember who she is in a world designed to make her forget. The church baptizes with names. We call the dead by name. We know a God who knows our name.
