The King Who Became a Servant - Reformed (John 3:16)
In medieval Europe, there's a legend of a king who fell in love with a peasant girl. He could have commanded her to marry him—she couldn't refuse a king. But he wanted her love, not her compliance. So he removed his crown, dressed as a commoner, and worked in her village. Only after she loved him for himself did he reveal his identity. The story echoes the gospel but falls short. God didn't disguise Himself to win our love—He gave His Son to die for rebels who hated Him. "While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." God's love wasn't seeking something lovable; it created love where there was none. This is sovereign grace.
