The Whole World Means Everyone - Progressive (John 3:16)

Source: Historical illustration100 words

When the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was drafted in 1948, Eleanor Roosevelt insisted on the word "universal"—not just rights for some nations, but for every human being. Critics said it was too broad, too idealistic. She replied that dignity must extend to all or it means nothing. John 3:16 makes the same radical claim: "God so loved THE WORLD"—not one nation, not one race, not one class. The Greek "kosmos" is deliberately universal. God's love crosses every border we construct. When we limit who deserves God's love, we shrink the gospel. The world means everyone—including those our society excludes.
