Waiting on the Lord: The Strength of Patience

We live in an instant culture, but God operates on eternal time. Isaiah's promise that 'those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength' (Isaiah 40:31) comes to those who learn to wait. This isn't passive resignation but active trust—continuing to believe God's goodness when His timeline differs from ours. David understood this tension: 'Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord' (Psalm 27:14). Waiting requires strength because it goes against our nature. We want answers now, solutions immediately, relief quickly. But God's timing is perfect, even when it's not punctual by our standards. 'There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens' (Ecclesiastes 3:1). Sometimes we must wait because we're not ready for what we're asking for. Sometimes the delay itself is God's method of preparation. Sometimes others need to be positioned for the answer we seek. Always, our waiting is an opportunity to grow in faith, to learn dependence, to develop character. The Hebrew word for 'wait' also means 'to twist together like a rope.' When we wait on God, our will becomes intertwined with His, our strength connected to His unlimited power. This isn't wasted time but sacred formation. Trust the process, even when you can't see the purpose.
